Sharing links to third-party materials like images, websites, YouTube videos, etc. is not considering copying, so it would not violate US copyright law.
Other resources you can freely use without requesting permission include:
- Works in the public domain
- Works under Creative Commons licenses (as long as you follow the terms of the license)

The library also has media collections (film, video, sound, image) that can be used per the terms of our subscriptions:
- Academic Video Online (AVON)
- ARTstor
- Kanopy Film
- Met Opera on Demand
- Naxos Music Library
- Search all streaming videos in Primo (To search, replace “a” in the search box with the keyword/topic of your choice.)
- Search for streaming PBS films in Primo (Browse PBS films available online via CSU Libraries.)
- Search Swank films in Primo (Search first-run, mainstream films made available via Swank Motion Pictures.)
If you are interested in sharing articles or book chapters with your class, then you can use our electronic Course Reserves system. Course Reserves will clear any copyright concerns with any of the material you are interested in using for your course. See here for details on how to place items on Course Reserve.
You are also free to rely on a fair use assessment to determine whether your use meets the four factors. For guidance in making this assessment, please see the Fair Use Checklist. I’m also happy to answer any questions that you may have about fair use.
